The Kidnap of Nigerian Female Students

As a Nation we are facing a lot of challenges; corruption, power, good roads, health and emergency services, terrorism to mention but a few. However, I feel a greater need to talk about something else, Kidnapping!

In the last month the whole world has been aware of the Kidnapping of about 200 secondary school girls in the Northern region of Nigeria. Everyone has been screaming blue murder! Protests are rising from all corners of the world. Celebrities worldwide are helping raise awareness for the salvation of the Kidnapped girls. All seems positive... Or does it???

Log into facebook and you see Nigerians making jokes about the kidnap! The hashtag "#BringBackOurGirls" becoming the newest trend both on Twitter and Facebook. Jokes are being made all over, "Bring back our girls, take our runs girls" spreading like wild fire.

The firstlady made a speech where she cried on National TV stating, 'There is God o" and that too spread like wild fire!

Pitiful!! Despicable!!! Absurd!!!

Why must every pain and torment we experience in this country be turned into some sort of Joke, a mimicry of the highest order. Why do we have to hide our pain behind fictitious smiles? Why do we have to make light of things that have the power to ruin our Nation?

To quote a friend of mine on facebook, Gloria;
'To be honest, I'm not sure what the bring back our girls hashtag is about anymore : if it has become a mere social media trend or if it's really portraying the heart of Nigerians for the kidnapped girls....A few weeks ago, a Malaysian airplane went aloof, it looked like the whole world was searching but I don't remember seeing as many dramatic displays on social media...'

Yesterday, I got back from work to hear my mum say that she was unable to make purchases at the market. I asked her why and she stated that the shops were forcefully closed down. Some people refused them opening because they were protesting the kidnap of girls in "Ogun" State!!!! :O

Ogun????? How does that happen??? How do you stop sales for a matter you know nothing about??? I get that drastic measures have to be taken but... Ogun? everyone knows the kidnap was effected in Chibok, Borno State!!!!

See what I mean!!!!!

Until we take our Nation and its issues into serious advisement, we shall not go far. We shall continue to suffer one another for things which we do not have concrete ideas. And we shall continue to lose loved ones.
I have my reservations on the issue especially as there has not been ONE PARENT who has come out to demand answers. However, that is an issue for another day!

Let me know your thoughts!!!

  1. I heard today on AIT's FOCUS NIGERIA that none of the parents of the kidnapped girls had come forward to complain and I was shocked, so who are these people campaigning and what are we really campaigning for? My Facebook friend Murewa told me it's much more than the Chibok girls and I'm like seriously? My fear is that all these is just a big conspiracy, I don't know exactly what consists the conspiracy. It breaks my heart that we Nigerians tend to turn everything into a trend.... I like the fact that we are speaking up for these girls but I only wish it was a more genuine effort. I believe everyone has an agenda from the International community to our government to the insurgents.
    Someone said there has been a lot of omissions (refusing to release some details) and some commissions(adding false details) in this Chibok matter and I quite agree with the person.

    1. Well said dear! It's real funny indeed. When the Malaysian plane got missing there was a manifesto of those aboard. The relatives of the passengers have still not let their government rest. Come down to the Chibok girls and what do we have? No relative is complaining, we do even have names of the supposed kidnapped girls. Nothing!!! Yet everyone is screaming #BringBackOurGirls. Sad

  4. If you watch closely the antecedents, you will discover that it has become a reocuring factor in Nigeria, when there is a serious political issue going on, someone is sent to the media to make some funny blunders to divert people's mind from the real issues at hand. its called the carrot and stick approach. I believe it is intentionally employed to create diversions from the real issues at hand. Recall when the NSCDC scam was heating up the policy, and all of a sudden the Oga at the Top was created to make people laugh and forget their sorrows. the Sanusi suspension was followed by fuel scarcity, and now we have the chibok girls and the the "there is God ooo" comic relief. Whatever form of carrot they bring to us, we cannot fail to see the true issues. Like the author of this blog, some comments are better reserved. But when the time comes, we will speak up (where necessary) take necessary action.
